@Dibs this may be to do with dirt or dust on the "glass", this would cause the light from the ir to flood the lens causing your reported issue. if it works with day light, and external lighting, then i would guess its dust that is your problem.

Hi Gliders, depending on the codec used VLC can have issues with it. its best to use the Hikvision player which is called VSPlayer. You can download from the Hikvision uk portal. The portal is one and the same that hikvision uploads their cameras firmware downloads to.
